Dutch Elm Disease

Description, Diagnosis and Management

Elm Tree

Dutch Elm disease is a lethal fungus that grows in the water conducting vessels (Xylem) of American, Red, English and other varieties of elms.
Dutch Elm disease is persistent and remains active in a community indefinitely. Many cities lose between 3 - 8% of their elms each year.
The most important aspect of controlling Dutch Elm Disease is sanitation - the timely removal of diseased elms prevents further spread of the disease.
Diseased elms cannot be saved by Macro-Infusion. A process called tracing has been successful in saving some diseased trees.
Macro-infusion of Arbotect is the recommended treatment of most major Universities including: University of Minnesota, University of Michigan, Kansas State University, University of Wisconsin, and others.
